"Becoming a Blue Book Trainee at Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, has been a unique and unrepeatable experience.
During these five incredible months located at their headquarters in Warsaw (Poland), I have felt truly integrated into the overall responsibilities and workload of the Operational Policies Sector and the Programmes and Policies Unit, the position for which I applied.
Thus, among many other tasks I have had the privilege of contributing to the implementation of the New Pact on Migration and Asylum, working on the most efficient way to provide the operational support required by Member States at their external borders, and participating in daily international meetings with the EU Commission and other Agencies involved.
Despite having to deal with very sensitive political issues, or rather precisely because of that, my work has been deeply motivating because I saw that what I was doing was not mere bureaucracy, but had a direct impact on the security of EU citizens, the management of migration flows and the optimal functioning of the common Schengen area.
All this made me feel useful and fulfilled, besides ready to take the next step in my career in the service of the EU institutions. Having participated in this international experience has been a great honour that I will never forget, so I can only recommend it to other young colleagues to apply for it in the future."
